Cha Eun Woo is the man. In person, the 27-year-old is just as charming, if not more, as the characters he plays on screen. He started his career in entertainment as an actor, then as a singer in South Korean boy band Astro. You might recognise him as the leading man in some of our favourite K-dramas such as Wonderful World (2024) and True Beauty (2020). He also has a successful solo music career to boot, and was most recently here for the Singapore leg of his fan concert, Just One 10 Minute [Mystery Elevator]. The concert features music from his new album Entity. We caught up with him for a quick chat on his creative process, most fulfilling project and more.

What have you discovered about yourself through this concert?

This fan concert has a lot of firsts for me. For instance, it’s my first solo fan concert and it features my first solo album Entity. It means a lot to me, and because of these meanings, I’ve put a lot of extra effort and passion when preparing for it. I just wanted to highlight that it has extra meaning to me.

Tell us about the meaning behind your concert title.

For this fan concert, I wanted to make it interesting. So I came up with the name ‘Mystery Elevator’. I wanted to devise a device that would allow me to travel anywhere with my fans, no matter the destination. With this idea in mind, I settled on the theme of a ‘Mystery Elevator’. But in actual fact, when you open the elevator doors, it’s like a romance fantasy. It’s really cute and fun. I really wanted to encapsulate these feelings in my fan concert.

What is the most challenging aspect of being an actor? Likewise, what do you find most fulfilling and why?

What I worry about most is portraying my character well. Will I be able to do it well? Will my portrayal of the character be able to bring it to life? Those are the concerns I always have. And I try to prepare a lot, and put a lot of effort into the project.

Seon-yul, the character that I played in my most recent project, Wonderful World, is the most memorable character for me. It is also the character that I'm most attached to. My proudest moment working on this was when I got to thank all of the staff members who poured their heart into the project and got to go home after shooting our last scene. We were filming for six to eight months.  On the way home, I felt refreshed and a little sad at the same time—but also happy that it’s over. Those feelings are new, and make me happy.
