Six years since bursting into the entertainment scene, Thai actress Becky Armstrong has finally dropped her debut single "Skin". Known for her powerful, affecting performances in series like The Loyal Pin and, more recently, Netflix's Girl From Nowhere: The Reset, Becky is now bringing that same emotion and passion to the realm of music.
Following several original soundtrack releases and covers she has released for her acting projects, the new track is a step towards a more personal direction as she kickstarts her music career. Written by Australian singer-songwriter Keenan Te and led creatively by fellow Thai artiste Sorn, best known as a member of the K-pop group CLC, "Skin" also marks Becky's first project after signing with Singaporean entertainment company WILD.
Following the release of "Skin", we caught up with Becky to discuss the track, her vision for her upcoming EP and potential tour plans.

Congratulations on releasing “Skin”! Tell us more about the song.
"The word 'skin' could be interpreted in many ways. I want to interpret it as feeling someone’s emotions. The music video is very cinematic, deep and beautifully created. It’s very pleasing and calm. I’d say that it’s about going through someone’s emotions. It’s understanding the feeling of nostalgia between moving on and still holding onto memories."
How did you decide on “Skin” as your debut single?
"Finding my debut single wasn’t that easy. I listened to many demos, but with the help of the team, Sorn, and Keenan, who wrote the song, I would say that “Skin” felt right. I listened to it, and it just felt right. Every lyric just screamed to me. I loved it. I’m someone who already loves these sad, deep songs. But 'Skin' really took me into its emotions."
What is the vision for your upcoming EP?
"It’s very exciting. I aim to release about four or five songs—hopefully five. And they’re all going to portray different feelings. “Skin” is more of a ballad, but the next one might be a bit more upbeat. Maybe, we’ll see. I also aim to go on mini tours around the world. I’m not sure where yet, but we’re figuring out where would be best to go and perform."

What were your musical influences for the EP?
"I didn’t have any specifically for the EP, but I do have inspirations from when I was a young girl, which are the likes of Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo. Those are the artists I like listening to at the end of a tiring day, and it gives me energy. Similarly, I hope the people who listen to my music can get that energy from it, too."
Does your style evolve with the projects you take on?
"It depends on what I’m doing. For the 'Skin' music video, I wanted it to be very calm and casual, since the whole visual has a sense of warmth. I helped pick out the outfits, like T-shirts and sweaters. I wanted people to be able to relate to it very easily, and for it to be easy on the eyes as well."
Tell us about your sartorial identity as a musician.
"Very easy-going, very natural. I’m someone who doesn’t like to wear a lot of makeup or dress up a lot. But something that’s natural and makes me feel confident, is the style I would go for."

How did the process for “Skin” differ from the music from your acting projects?
"As an actress, I got to do some OSTs, which was amazing and I loved the opportunity. But this is the first time I got to put out a song for me to really sing for my audience, and one that I really fell in love with. I really appreciate all the hard work behind it because it wasn’t easy for it to come to be 'Skin'."
Why choose now to begin your journey as a singer?
"I would never say singing is a new journey, because singing was always a part of me. But I didn’t really have a chance to proceed with music at the time. I’m glad that I do now. I was just saying, a lot of my fans who have been with me know the backstory and hardship that I’ve been through. So to finally release this song was very special."
How is music different from other forms of expression for you?
"When you're acting, you’re a character; you’re someone else. But in music, it's just me, my heart and soul, showing you my emotions. You’re getting to know a side of me that you might not have known before."

What can we expect from you in the coming months?
"There will probably be the next single. Hopefully, a completed EP by the end of the year. And tours!"
Do you have a message for your fans?
"Thank you very much for your support, I really appreciate it. When the song was released, it was 1AM here in Singapore, and midnight back home, and everybody was still up waiting for it. I can’t thank you enough, and I hope you enjoy this journey with me."
