Since their debut in 2018, i-dle have been among the most daring of their peers in K-pop, challenging themselves to new genres and concepts with each release. This time, the group are back with their digital single "Mono" featuring British rapper SKAIWATER, a departure from i-dle's usual bombast with its minimalist black-and-white visual and straightforward music production. Instead, their boldness lies in the song's message, with lyrics encouraging listeners to embrace themselves and one another, regardless of their cultural and gender identities.
"We wanted to show once again that i-dle can explore a wide range of musical styles. More than anything, this song carries our genuine sincerity toward music, and we hope listeners can feel and recognise that," says leader SOYEON, who also writes and produces most of the group's music. Main vocalist MIYEON adds: "It's is a song that makes you think about what true love is. You will get a chance to think about the essence of love."
Even after their years of musical exploration, member YUQI reveals that the idea of stripping down their production for this release. "It’s such a simple concept and the whole video was shot in just one outfit, so the minimal and relaxed vibe is something we haven’t shown in a long time," she explains. "I think fans might be very
surprised, in a good way. Honestly, we were surprised too, but we really loved it." Meanwhile, SHUHUA shares a memory of performing alongside dancers of various nationalities for the visual, expressing her desire to replicate the scene on stage.
Following the release of "Mono", the group are headed on their 'Syncopation' 2026 World Tour, which will land in Singapore this June. To that end, MINNIE shares that they are currently preparing several new performances for the upcoming tour.
In celebration of their new release, and anticipation of i-dle's upcoming tour, ELLE Singapore challenged the girl group to a game of 'Who's Most Likely'. Watch on to discover each member's quirks and habits, as well as a special message for their fans in Singapore.
