Alvin Chong has carved out a distinctive place for himself in Malaysia’s competitive acting industry. Consistently breaking boundaries and redefining expectations, he’s proven that nothing can stand in the way of talent and determination. With his dashing looks, endearing personality and natural screen presence, the Malaysian actor has firmly established himself as a beloved mainstay on local television.
Born in George Town, Penang, the Alvin first entered the entertainment scene through the Chinese singing reality show Astro Star Quest in 2009. At the time, he wasn’t chasing stardom. In fact, he’s even admitted in past interviews that the prize money was his initial motivation. Still, his talent shone through: He placed fifth in the finals, setting the stage for the launch of his singing career.

Following his stint on the singing reality show, Alvin made his silver-screen debut in 2014 with the local Chinese film 3 Brothers, (2014) playing Ah Por, a film extra with dreams of stardom. Yet the road ahead wasn’t always easy. After multiple unsuccessful auditions and moments of doubt about his future in entertainment, he was offered a cameo in his first Malay drama, Dia Semanis Honeymoon (2016). This became a turning point in his career. He landed a supporting role as a pilot in Suri Hati Mr. Pilot (2016), starring alongside Fattah Amin and Neelofa—a breakthrough performance that showcased his star potential. A fresh face with an irresistible charm, Alvin quickly captured the audience’s attention, earning a surge of fans almost overnight.
Not being fluent in Malay at the outset could have been a hurdle, but what set Alvin apart was his determination to grow. He was unafraid to make mistakes and always willing to seek guidance from his peers. His commitment paid off. He soon took on his first leading role in Awak Suka Saya Tak? (2017) opposite Emma Maembong, marking his rise as a bona fide leading man. His turn as Ashraff in the Malaysian remake of the South Korean hit She Was Pretty (2022) further showcased his versatility and magnetic screen presence. The performance earned him the Best Supporting Male Performance Award at the 27th Asian Television Awards in 2022, solidifying his place as one of the industry's standout talents.

He has also collaborated with regional artists such as Filipino singer Isabela Vinzon and Korean singer-songwriter Youha, further expanding his musical reach.
In the sartorial world, Alvin has become one of Malaysia’s most recognisable faces on the global fashion circuit. Earlier this year, the multi-talented star attended the Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Emporio Armani men’s spring/summer 2026 shows at Milan Fashion Week. He was also in Singapore recently for Ralph Lauren Fragrances’ Polo Red Racing pop-up, further cementing his presence in the regional fashion scene.
