For his first Cruise collection for Chanel, Matthieu Blazy looked to the seaside glamour of Biarritz, where Coco Chanel first opened her couture salon in 1915. That breezy spirit ran throughout the collection, appearing in soft silhouettes, tactile fabrics, and pieces that shimmered in the sunlight.

Among the standout looks was an aqua blue denim co-ord, entirely covered in sequins. At first glance, it looks like a classic Canadian tuxedo: An oversized denim shirt paired with straight-leg jeans. Upon closer inspection, it offers a subtle sparkle and turned the otherwise casual silhouette into something elevated.

It's not just about one look, rather, it's testament to a wider shift that is happening in fashion right now. Denim, traditionally considered casual wear, is being transformed into a material that's sophisticated and fun. In place of stiff, structured jeans, designers are embracing embellished finishes and relaxed cuts that are better suited for dinners and parties. Styled with a simple tank top, soft beach waves, and feathered eyelashes, the set felt glamorous without trying too hard.

While Chanel’s much-discussed version has yet to arrive in stores, brands like Dior, Louis Vuitton, Levi's and more are already offering denim sets that channel the same elevated resort sensibility. From sequinned pairings and embroidered separates to relaxed, loose-fitting co-ords, one thing is clear: Denim is anything but boring now.
