Renowned for its avant-garde style, Maison Margiela has approached fashion like an experiment. Over the years, the House has earned a reputation for its use of deconstructed tailoring, split-toe Tabi shoes, and painted finishes—all recognisable signatures fixed with Maison Margiela's four-stitch white label. Beyond its aesthetic, the Maison pushes further into unconventionality, relying on themes of art and anonymity. The result is a brand that has risen up in the fashion scene, shrouded behind a mysterious allure that surrounds its haute couture and ready-to-wear presentations. Now for the first time, Maison Margiela reveals a snippet of its enigmatic history.

This April, the House is bringing its world to China with MaisonMargiela/folders, a multi-city programme that invites audiences to explore its creative foundations through a series of exhibitions. Using both physical and digital records from the brand's archive, the project aims to unpack the codes that have shaped the label's past, present, and future, using immersive experiences.

Starting 1 April 2026, Maison Margiela will open with their fall/winter 2026 runway show in Shanghai, as a special guest of Shanghai Fashion Week. From there, the Maison will stage four public exhibitions across four major Chinese cities, titled Artisanal, Anonymity, Tabi, and Bianchetto.

Following the fall/winter show, Shanghai will also host Artisanal, a creative laboratory exhibition from 2 to 6 April. After, Anonymity will take place from 7 to 12 April in Beijing. The showcase explores the House's rich history of masks—an accessory that has appeared in Margiela collections since their spring/summer 1989 runway debut. In Chengdu, the brand’s signature Tabi takes the spotlight through a collectors’ exhibition of shoes running from 9 to 13 April, before the journey concludes in Shenzhen with an atelier experience. Known as Bianchetto, the workshop will run on 11 and 12 April. All events are free to attend, with registration opening on 17 March.
