A singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Chinese-Canadian idol Henry Lau has truly done it all. A gifted violinist since childhood, he spent his teenage years sweeping music competitions and performing with orchestras before taking the leap to South Korea to debut with the K-pop boy group Super Junior. During his rigorous idol training, Henry broadened his artistry by refining his singing and dancing skills while immersing himself in music production and songwriting. With such a wealth of talent, his eventual rise as a solo artist was nothing short of inevitable.

Since his official solo debut in 2013, Henry has become known for seamlessly blending his classical training with his idol experience. His showstopping performances often fuse powerful vocals and dynamic dance with electric violin and piano—and occasionally guitar and drums. “I try to make every single one of my stages unique,” he says.

As he tours the globe performing for eager fans, Henry draws on his wide-ranging talents and instruments, carefully crafting each show to offer something fresh, ensuring that no two performances are ever the same. His multilingualism further allows him to connect with audiences across cultures, frequently releasing music in English, Mandarin, and Korean, effortlessly switching between languages and captivating fans wherever he goes.

Following the release of his Mandarin single Taijiu and ahead of his performance at the inaugural Singland Festival on January 3, ELLE Singapore sat down with Henry to discuss his plans for the rest of 2025, upcoming projects (he’s got plenty in the works!), and what fans can look forward to from his festival set.
