Patek Philippe has never been shy about rewriting the rules of classic elegance, but its latest creation might just be the Maison at its most playful—and most exquisite. The new Gondolo Serata Reference 4962/200R-010 marks a striking evolution for the beloved dress-watch line, first introduced in 2006 and adored for its soft, Art Deco curves and glamour.
Originally presented in diamond-set white gold with guilloché mother-of-pearl, the Gondolo Serata quickly became synonymous with evening refinement. Its 2023 comeback in rose gold, framed by a blaze of spessartites and a floral-motif lacquered dial, signalled the line’s return to the spotlight. Now, Patek Philippe pushes the narrative further, merging the world of rare handcrafts with contemporary audacity.

The headline act? A zebra-stripe motif dial like you’ve never seen before. Inspired by the Golden Ellipse Reference 5738/50G-023—a star of the 2022 Rare Handcrafts collection—this new iteration embraces innovation through an intricate sapphire crystal dial. The crystal is engraved and black-varnished on both sides, creating a razor-sharp interplay of light and shadow. Black metallisation and white varnish complete the motif, giving the zebra its striking dimensionality as it seems to leap to the forefront of the dial.
Rose gold leaf-shaped hands sweep past two applied Breguet numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock, leaving the rest of the dial uncluttered—a deliberate choice that allows the artwork to breathe.
Encasing this visual drama is a sculptural 28.6 x 40.85 mm rose gold case, complete with 94 brilliant-cut spessartites. Arranged in a double gradient from rich cognac hues to vivid tangerine, the gemstones emphasise the watch’s cinched waist and curved silhouette. A secondary row of stones enhances the asymmetry with an unexpected, almost couture-like detail that feels perfectly at home on the wrist.

Completing the look is a white satin-finished calfskin strap, secured with a rose gold pin buckle subtly engraved with the Patek Philippe emblem. Inside, the E15 quartz calibre keeps time with the maison’s signature precision, its mechanical components decorated with the same fastidious craftsmanship reserved for Patek Philippe’s mechanical movements.
The result? A timepiece that blurs the line between haute horlogerie and high jewellery. It’s a bold yet refined statement for collectors who understand that true luxury lives in the details.
