At ELLE Singapore, we’re all about curating the perfect mix of style, substance, and fun. With 2024 nearly behind us, our editors reflect on the purchases that brought them the most joy this year—whether they’re splurges, smart investments, or the occasional happy accident. From designer rings to next-level sneakers, here’s a peek at the items that topped our lists, making 2024 a year to remember.

My Trinity for Chitose Abe of Sacai two-finger ring was a purchase that was two years in the making. I had it on my wish list from the moment I learnt about it in 2022 (when it was only available for purchase in Tokyo, Paris, Milan, London and New York) but I never had the opportunity to buy it till this year. Cartier flew in the three-finger ring for me to try on, but it didn't suit me. I was just about to leave the store when Cartier realised that they had a two-finger ring in stock because a customer had ordered one in and changed their mind. What are the chances that the size was absolutely perfect? Never have I whipped out my credit card faster than I did that day. Happy happenstance!

The Philips 8000 Series Hair Dryer ($299) completely changed my hair care game, and here’s why. Its Dual AirStream technology delivers sleek, frizz-free hair in under three minutes, while ThermoShield technology adjusts heat to protect hair and scalp for smooth, shiny results. With 200 million negative ions, it locks in hydration and adds shine. Weighing just 395g, it’s lightweight and easy to use, with a luxurious champagne finish. The preset modes—Fast, Gentle, Hot/Cold, and ThermoShield—make styling simple and adaptable to your needs.

I got the Thom Browne jockstrap at a sale. It was the last piece and the markdown was amazing. Love a good bargain that is coded queer, slutty and fashion all at once.

I love bags—big, small, wide, slim, luxurious or not—it doesn’t matter. As someone who has become increasingly mindful of my shopping habits, I now prioritise quality over quantity, opting for items that offer plenty of wear. I don’t shop often, but when I saw the Louis Vuitton Side Trunk PM, crafted from grained calfskin leather with a gold-tone S-lock and corners, I knew I had to have it. Inspired by the House’s vintage trunks, this ultra-chic bag fits a wallet, keys, and lipstick perfectly.

Since my trusty Air Jordans had finally seen their last days, 2024 became the year of my ultimate sneaker hunt. After months of tirelessly combing the internet, I landed on Maison Margiela’s Replica sneakers in a luxurious brown hue. Now, they’re hands down the most cherished pair in my collection—no dreaded ‘breaking in’ phase, and they pair effortlessly with almost any outfit. Made from buttery nappa leather, these kicks even passed the ultimate comfort test: Tackling nearly 20,000 steps a day during my recent adventure through Taipei.

My best purchase of the year probably won’t surprise anyone—except for me, that it took me this long to add them to my shoe rotation. (I say "shoe rotation," but let’s be honest, they’re pretty much all I wear now.) It’s the Buckle-fastening Slip-on Sandals by Birkenstock. While the sleek, fresh-out-of-the-box pair did spark joy at first, I’d say they actually age even better with a little wear on the brown oil-slick finish.
P.S. I’ve worn them to more rave nights than I’d care to admit, and they’ve held up incredibly well.P.P.S. My favourite combo? A pair of grey Salomon socks and these beauties.
