Susan Fang is best known for her whimsical curations, and chances are you’ve come across her signature organza dresses or flower cut petal designs before. This is what makes her latest collaboration with & Other Stories such an inviting and highly anticipated one this season. 

Through this collaboration, & Other Stories highlights Fang's uncanny ability to create nature-inspired creations using "innovative design techniques" as the collection invites wearers into a surreal world of enchantment. The 11-piece collection introduces new dimensions to Susan Fang’s design. With finishing touches like beaded “water drops” that add an extra layer to the designer’s signatures like unique prints, laser-cut flower petals, crochet pieces, and delicate broderie anglaise.

One of the collection’s standouts is the treasure dress that Fang's mother actually helped design. The designer incorporates her mother’s unique drawings and marble paintings into prints to achieve a blend of emotions and contemporary look and feel. “For the & Other Stories collection, we were able to recreate that effect in the laser-cut flower petal dress,” Fang shares in a press release. “We decided to make the dress strapless and more minimal, and I think it’s perfect for any grand event as well as daily wear.”

Another notable number is the flower necklace. “The necklace is particularly special because it came from a dream I had about a transparent flower blossoming,” shared the designer. “I don’t know if transparent flowers exist in the real world, maybe only in a fantasy world. So, I felt I had to create one.” The transparent 3D-printed flower necklace was initially a showpiece, but now crafted as a less heavy version for & Other Stories. One could call it a piece that was inspired by fantasy, and rendered in reality—a perfect embodiment of Dreams Unleashed as a collection.

This partnership between the retailer and the designer was inspired by nature and the idea of creating dreamy statement pieces that could also be worn in your daily wardrobe. The collection has added floral elements in all its pieces, where some flowers are in the broderie anglaise, and others in the embroidery or made with beads. Pieces with floral prints were combined with transparent fabric—where it appears to be floating to give you a feeling of freedom. It’s a collection that ties nature, dreams and surrealism together seamlessly through fashion.
