Rihanna just gave us the ultimate beauty blast-from-the-past, debuting a fresh set of statement, electric red locks via Instagram. The singer and beauty mogul's latest hair colour could've been plucked directly from the 2010s; the vibrant crimson shade is identical to that of her iconic Loud era. The occasion? Savage X Fenty's highly anticipated Diesel collaboration.

Red hair has always been a statement, but Rihanna has long been credited for bringing it into the mainstream. Her latest do is far choppier and edgier than the original voluminous waves she sported during her Only Girl (In The World) days. Add in a bold brow and an 'it-girl' fashion ensemble and you have a quintessential Rihanna beauty moment.

"Red and copper tones always come back to have their moment in the colder seasons and winter 2024 is no exception," says hairstylist and trend forecaster, Tom Smith. "There’s a powdery and slightly sherbet quality to the vivid reds this year; they have an airiness that makes them feel fresh and youthful while retaining the attention grabbing nature of true red."

Thinking of trialling the statement shade for winter? This is Smith's advice on deciphering whether the vibrant hue will work for you.

"The suitability of a non naturally occurring shade depends less on your skin tone and eye colour, and more so on your personality and confidence. This shade will attract attention and compliments, so required a bit of boldness to enjoy wearing. That being said, deeper and richer skin tones tend to look phenomenal with this acidic red tone."

Added to the winter beauty moodboard immediately.
