For Christian Dior, the South of France was never just a holiday destination. It was where he escaped after the chaos of Paris fashion shows, surrounded by gardens, good food, sunlight, and quiet. At Château de La Colle Noire, his beloved estate in Provence, he planted jasmine, roses, olive trees and more than 150 almond trees, creating for himself his very own personal paradise.

That world now becomes the inspiration behind Dior Paradise, the latest fragrance in La Collection Privée conceived by Francis Kurkdjian, Perfume Creation Director at Parfums Christian Dior. "The sight of the trees in [bloom], the scent of their sweet aroma, and a hint of spring light—these are the captivating colours and scents that I wanted to convey,” says the perfumer.
At the heart of the fragrance is bitter almond—a note rarely highlighted in perfumery. Here, it is blended with mandarin, orange, and lime, before softening into woody notes and roasted tonka bean. To Kurkdjian, this scent is “luminous, clean, sheer, sophisticated, yet very casual and cool” and very “yummy”. Think of “a mouthwatering treat, like an irresistible almond biscuit.”

What we appreciate is that Dior Paradise does not fall into the trap of becoming typically gourmand or citrusy. It’s so well-balanced that you hardly notice there are three kinds of citruses blended into the juice. Right off the bat, it smells fresh in a crisp cologne sort of way that’s soft and feminine—like freshly laundered clothes layered with a sweet and citrus mist. There is no need to wait for the notes to unfold either: ”What you smell at the beginning is what you get until the end,” assures Kurkdjian.
In Singapore’s humidity, where some perfumes fade too quickly, Dior Paradise wins us over for its consistency and lasting power. It’s bright but not too bold, creamy and not at all cloying—the perfect scent to keep at your desk for a quick refresh before dinner or after a day-long romp at the beach.
In many ways, Dior Paradise feels less like a statement fragrance and more like a vibe—one that is extremely chill but still very luxurious. Exactly the kind of feeling Christian Dior himself once searched for in the South of France.
