Rihanna Is The Muse Behind The New J’adore Intense Perfume By Dior

Irreverent, sexy, and comfortable in her own skin.

Rihanna is the muse behind the new J’adore Intense.

More than two decades after its debut, Dior’s J’adore continues to evolve by deepening its original identity. With J’adore Intense, Perfume Creation Director Francis Kurkdjian takes a different approach. This time, he had a specific woman in mind for his creation: None more alluring than Rihanna.

As the new face of J’adore, she doesn’t just front the campaign—she shapes the mood of the fragrance. Kurkdjian builds the scent around her energy: irreverent, sexy, and comfortable in her own skin. He describes it as a more “shapely” J’adore, warmer and more rounded, something that feels more personal. “I felt the desire to celebrate a liberated, curvaceous, ultra-feminine and confident icon,” he says. “This J'adore Intense needed a narrow waist, full hips, and to hold her head high!”

At its core, the milky sweet-musky-floral composition remains unmistakably J’adore. Jasmine, rose, and ylang-ylang anchor the scent, but here they are pushed to what Kurkdjian calls their “floral peak”—that moment just before they turn into fruit. Jasmine carries a soft apricot-like sweetness, rose leans slightly honeyed, and Madagascar ylang-ylang adds a sun-warmed glow.

What stands out is how it wears. Instead of projecting loudly, it sits closer to the skin. “I wanted the scent to feel as though it was ‘melting’ into the skin, enveloping it in a honeyed, floral nectar,” Kurkdjian explains. Soft gourmand notes—vanilla, sandalwood, and a milky accord—round out the florals without excess. The result is fuller on first impression but lingers gently.

Compared to the original, which felt brighter and more airy, this one feels warmer and more relaxed. It’s still recognisably J’adore, just more woman of today and a little more lived-in. “I wanted to somehow add ‘curves’ and ‘shape’ to J’adore, ‘rounding’ it out for a voluptuous and sexy feel,”  he says.

That sophistication also extends to the bottle. The signature amphora, designed in 1999 by Hervé Van der Straeten, keeps its elongated silhouette and gilded details, but is reworked in a lighter glass material (composed of non-renewable natural resources like silica, sand, and zinc) to reduce environmental impact.

With Rihanna at the centre, J’adore Intense feels like a natural next step. The floral is still recognisable, but now softer, warmer, and ultimately, easier to wear in a way that feels current.
