Tissot has built quite a reputation for producing watches that look good and work great—and it does all this without an accompanying price tag that makes you choke on your tea. Its latest chronograph collection, the PR516, is no exception.
A reinterpretation of a popular driving watch model from the 70s, Tissot’s new PR516 sports a modern vintage look that is so du jour these days. Its 41mm tapered steel case is even topped with a glass box-style sapphire crystal to drive the pseudo-retro design point home. The three counters on its dial (for the small seconds on the left, 30-minute on the right, and 12-hour in the middle) are teamed with a tachymeter and pulsometer on the bezel—just so you can measure the speed and your heart rate when engaged in adrenaline-inducing activities. And to ensure that your watch remains a useful tool at any time of day, the PR516’s bezel, indices, and baton hands are all coated with Super-LumiNova for easy legibility no matter the light conditions.

Turn the watch around and you’ll see the manual-wind movement that was designed specifically for this watch through the display caseback. Promising a 68-hour power reserve (wind it up and forget about it for the next three days), the Valjoux A05.291 movement is equipped with a balance spring made out of Nivachron. This patented titanium-based alloy is resistant to magnetism, temperature variations and shocks—all the things that can affect a watch’s performance. What this essentially means is that you get a watch that is as robust in function as it is suave in looks. Did we mention that it comes with a quick interchangeable system that allows you to switch out its bracelet for leather straps if the occasion (or mood) calls for it?
