Roger Vivier's Icons Campaign Celebrates Mother's Day with Laura Dern and Daughter Jaya Harper

In this ELLE Singapore exclusive, Dern shares what's it like working on the campaign.

Mother-daughter campaigns are not unusual, especially when it is created for Mother's Day. But it is a big deal when it involves prominent actress Laura Dern and her 19-year-old daughter Jaya Harper in their first-ever campaign together. Shot in Los Angeles by photographer and director Luke Gilford, the portfolio features a series of portraits that showcase the duo's close, intimate bond—all while dressed in some of Roger Vivier's most emblematic designs.

In one image, Dern and Harper share a sweet embrace with a jewel-encrusted satin headband dressing Harper's hair. In another, Dern showcases the brand's Viv' Choc handbag and Belle Vivier shoes as a lesson of timeless elegance. Other star products that appear in the campaign include Roger Vivier's embellished waistcoat, patent leather belt, and darling Bouquet Multiflowers hair clip and earrings.

Shot under the watchful eye of creative director Gherardo Felloni, the campaign underscores the longevity of true style and classic beauty, while highlighting the importance of familial bonds and love. And it seems everyone involved found the experience exceptionally fulfilling. Harper shares: "This is my first brand campaign, and collaborating with my mother on it has been an extraordinary experience that will undoubtedly be treasured. I am immensely grateful to Gherardo for inviting me to participate in this project." As for Dern, she says, "Collaborating with Jaya on this campaign has been an incredibly special experience as it was an occasion to celebrate, together and for the first time, our shared love for fashion." The love between the beautiful mother-and-daughter pair resulted in photographs that were so good, Felloni admitted that he found it "extremely difficult" to choose the final images.

Dern, who was recently announced as Roger Vivier's ambassador, shares what it was like to work on the campaign in this ELLE Singapore exclusive.

How was working with Gherardo Felloni on the photoshoot with Jaya; was it a collaborative process?

Gherardo is a dream... Jaya and I felt like it was adopted family from the moment we met him at a dinner. We admire his eye, sense of design, and his craftsmanship. Collaborating together on any kind of homage to this brand was a gift.

What kind of woman do you feel the Roger Vivier woman is?

Effortless, elegant, sophisticated, with a deep sense of irreverent play.

As an actress, how do you navigate the intersection between personal style and the characters you portray?

My personal style is always about fun, comfort, and reinvention when in the mood. The character journey is entirely different but one that is deeply influenced and inspired by design every time.

It’s nice to have a brand that both mother and daughters can wear with pride, did you and Jaya have a favorite piece in the collection?

We adore the Viv’ Choc bag. As for the Belle Vivier shoe, Gherardo has made it in so many colours, styles, and fabrics, it’s truly gorgeous, sexy, and actually wearable and comfortable. I keep coming back to it every time, so much so that I had reached out to Gherardo to thank him for such a great shoe.
