Since its inception, Louis Vuitton has been synonymous with travel. Its monogram trunks and signature handbags, all created with a practical use in mind, have long been the choice of the well-heeled, whether that's Audrey Hepburn toting the Speedy bag or Kate Moss landing with her Keepall to hand.

The next stop in its ever-expanding universe? London, as the brand opens its own 'hotel' in Mayfair's Berkley Square.

Open on April 24, the expansive townhouse presents in the form of a hotel. Yes, there's even a check-in desk where you're presented with your own Louis Vuitton 'room key'. You can't sleep in the hotel, but you certainly can dream in there.

The pop-up, open for two months, is a celebration of Louis Vuitton's Monogram, which was created by Georges Vuitton as a tribute to his father in 1986, with each space dedicated to a handbag that bares the universally recognisable print. The choice to host it in London is also of significance as the city was the home of Louis Vuitton's second store, after its Paris flagship, making the UK opening the first international expansion for the growing house.

Wander up its winding staircase and you'll encounter spaces that celebrate the Speedy, Keepall, Noé, Alma, and Neverfull. You know the bags, but this offers up an opportunity to delve deeper into each style's history and craftsmanship. The idea is to celebrate the "heritage of the bag as an accessory as well as a cultural artefact—masterpieces of craftsmanship that have accompanied generations of travellers, creatives and collectors."

No two room is the same, with each bag's attributes inspiring the spaces. As you enter the hotel, you're welcomed into the Keepall Lobby, a room that celebrates the large, duffle bag style, alongside reading nooks to take in Louis Vuitton's own literature and an additional curation of titles. Or, those already in possession of a Louis Vuitton bag, that might need a little light case of TLC, can hand in their bag for "a restorative short stay."

Beneath the townhouse lies the glamorous and seductive Bar Noé. The low-lit champagne bar offers the most intimate experience in the hotel, with a nod to the bag's design that allows the wearer to carry five bottles of fizz at once. The bar will remain open until 11pm on weekends with a curation of DJs adding to the celebratory mood of the space.

Head up the staircase and you'll find Café Alma. This tearoom-meets-salon celebrates the top-handle tote with the townhouse's dining experience, where guests can order from the light lunch menu or take afternoon tea later on. It's the perfect tribute to the elegant, ladylike handbag first introduced in 1992.

Fashion fans will need to find restraint as they enter The Speedy Room. Here, on the second floor, there are several rooms dedicated to the bowling-style Speedy bag. Designed in the 1930s, the bag endures as a fashion-editor favourite, especially with the revival, courtesy of Pharrell Williams, for Louis Vuitton's menswear collections. Find these extra-special iterations locked in the Speedy P9 'Safe Room.' The rooms also celebrate the extraordinary savoir-faire that brings each Speedy to life by showing its pieces laid out plain to see. Don't leave the space without picking up the telephone for a phone call that unfurls a piece of fashion history.

Next, its time to work out as the house's roomy Neverfull tote takes centre stage in an elegant, compact gym. The decision to house this bag in a fitness space comes down to the fact that the 800-gram bag has been proven to carry a hefty 100kg. While you're there, strike a pose in the LV-monogrammed weights area.

It also goes without saying that the hotel is as much an exquisite shopping experience as it is a place of admiration and education. Those wishing to expand their Louis Vuitton collections can purchase everything on display, be it those brightly coloured special Speedys or a classic monogram Noé, as well as items from Louis Vuitton's beauty and parfums collections and all the charms, tags and keyrings any LV enthusiast could ever long for.

The Louis Vuitton Hotel is the ultimate celebration of the LV monochrome, one of fashion's most instantly recognisable motifs, as it celebrates 130 years. It's time to check in to check out this unfurling fashion icon as its appeal continues.
