Blackpink’s Lisa achieved a career milestone tonight, marking her first solo appearance at the MTV VMAs. The “Rockstar” singer arrived wearing an incredible veiled nude corset gown by Mugler. “I wanted something like timeless, classic,” Lisa told MTV of why she chose the dress.

Lisa is set to perform during the VMAs ceremony. She shared she couldn’t say much about it on the red carpet, but there would be “a lot of red and flames.” Her single “Rockstar” is also up for Best K-pop Song, Best Editing, Best Art Direction, and Best Choreography.

Lisa spoke to ELLE about the difference between her onstage persona and who she is off-duty, saying, “Onstage, everything has to be on point. It’s performance Lisa, like, I want to make sure that they’re having fun, and they will stand and dance with me. Sometimes I would like convince them to like, get up, get up and dance!” She laughed. “Offstage is just chill, stay home, watch Netflix, be with my cats and dog. When I have my cats on top of me and they’re purring, that’s the best.”

She also opened up about her style and how it really brings out her inner performer. “I’m into leather stuff,” she said. “Big, big earrings. Silver accessories. When I wear it, I just feel like, ‘Okay, I’m a rock star.’ I’m going to walk like a rock star. I’m going to sit like a rock star.”

The clothes also reflect her blossoming confidence: “To be honest, I’m not the type who’s really good at expressing my feelings,” she said. “Lately, I feel more confident of what I think, and say it out loud.”
