Taking place on the seventh day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar, Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, is a celebration of love and reunion. Originating from the romantic folktale of The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl—star-crossed lovers banished to opposite sides of the milky way—it marks their one day of meeting each year, when a flock of magpies form a bridge to bring them together. While Qixi was traditionally a day of celestial worship, lovers today continue to commemorate their own love stories on this day with romantic dates and gift-giving to honour their bond.

In the spirit of Chinese Valentine’s Day, which falls on August 29 this year, fashion brands have already begun unveiling special Qixi collections, drawing on elements of the Chinese folktale and their own interpretations of romance, curating unique, thoughtful pieces to gift our loved ones. From cuddly plushies to stylish new wardrobe additions, these are the best Chinese Valentine’s Day collections to shop in 2025.

Burberry

This year, Burberry launched its special Qixi capsule collection with a campaign fronted by Chinese house ambassadors Wu Lei and Zhang Jingyi titled ‘Love, Unexpected’. Here, the British luxury brand celebrates the love that appears when we least expect it, finding romance in everyday moments. Created in collaboration with professors and students from Donghua University, the collection features Burberry’s interpretation of the Chinese knot, bringing traditional craftsmanship and cultural meaning to contemporary fashion.

A knot emblem forming the letter ‘B’ is embroidered on T-shirts, poplin shirts and shorts, also emerging in new stylisations of Burberry’s classic Equestrian Knight logo and playful prints splashed across silk scarves. The limited-edition collection also features a special version of the iconic Thomas Bear charm, who sports a bright red T-shirt of his own in the embroidered style.
