For a long time, summer was associated with vacation time and switching off. But for a growing number of young professionals, it is increasingly becoming something else entirely: A chance to reassess and invest in what comes next.

In creative industries where trends move at TikTok speed, and job titles evolve rapidly, creativity alone is no longer enough. Today’s beauty and fashion landscapes demand a broader skill set—one that combines creative instinct with business thinking, brand strategy, communication, and an understanding of how audiences behave across various  digital platforms.

This shift is changing the way careers are built. Increasingly, professionals are looking beyond traditional career paths and rigid academic routes in favour of more flexible learning that fits around work and evolving ambitions. Some are hoping to sharpen existing skills, while others are looking to pivot entirely, whether from editorial into branding, content creation into creative direction, or fashion into beauty entrepreneurship.

It is within this landscape that institutions such as ELLE Education by Mindway are finding growing relevance. Created through a collaboration between ELLE International and Mindway, a school of design and innovation, and academically endorsed by Camilo José Cela University (pictured), the institution offers MBA programmes, master’s degrees, diplomas, and specialised certificates that cover areas such as brand strategy, marketing, and communications. Since 2009, more than 100,000 students from over 70 nationalities have completed programmes across its ecosystem.

Part of the appeal lies in flexibility. Students can choose between fully online courses or an executive format that combines remote learning with an immersive in-person experience in Madrid each July. The summer programme  is also designed to bring students closer to the industries through workshops, talks, and networking opportunities.

For many young creatives, this kind of access matters just as much as the qualification itself. The beauty and fashion industries remain highly relationship-driven, and understanding how brands operate behind the scenes can often be as valuable as technical skill alone. Internship opportunities, career forums, and alumni connections also form part of a wider approach aimed at helping students build long-term careers rather than simply complete a course.

Ultimately, the appeal of programmes like these reflects a larger shift happening across the creative industries. Learning is no longer viewed as something confined to formal education, but as an ongoing process of adaptation in industries where reinvention is often part of the job description.

June may still be associated with escape, but increasingly, it is also becoming a season of recalibration. And for many young professionals navigating the fast-moving worlds of beauty, fashion, creativity, and design, that investment in growth may prove more valuable than ever.
