Art Works Gallery continues its commitment to championing emerging talent with its forthcoming exhibition, Perception. Opening on 24 October and running through 24 November at One Holland Village, the show features three young London-based artists—Araminta Blue, Callum Harvey, and Max Boyla—each offering a unique visual interpretation of reality on canvas. The exhibition explores the artists' individual responses to the question of how perception shapes the visual representation of the world, challenging established notions of form, space, and meaning.
Each artist, having graduated from renowned institutions, is at the forefront of contemporary visual discourse. “I’ve been following the work of each artist for some time, and it’s a true pleasure to introduce these exciting talents to Singapore and South-East Asia,” says Cassi Young, global fine art director at Art Works Group. “I look forward to presenting their distinct practices to a new collector audience.” Here, we take a closer look at the three artists featured in Perception.

Araminta Blue
Araminta Blue’s work draws heavily on themes of escapism, expressed through otherworldly abstract forms. A London-based British artist, Blue holds an MFA from the Slade School of Art and a BA from the Ruskin School of Art. Her first museum exhibition, Il Calore Sulla Pelle, is currently showing at MARV Gradara in Italy.

Her immersive oil paintings push figuration to its limits, using abstract layers and textures that blur, dissolve, and re-emerge, inviting viewers into a transformative act of creation. Through her work, Blue reimagines the visual landscape of her canvas, transforming it into a space of escape from reality, offering both protection and a passage to another world.
Callum Harvey
At 26, Callum Harvey is already making waves in the art world with his exploration of the transitional spaces where the natural and artificial collide. His soft, subtle colour palettes depict architectural, spatial, and organic elements, creating dislocated perceptions of space. Harvey's art employs layered, translucent paint to evoke surreal, almost dreamlike environments.

His debut solo exhibition, held at Pipeline in London in 2023, was followed by shows at Future Fair in New York and Pavilion Gallery in London. With an MA from the Royal College of Art and a BA from Falmouth University, Harvey has also been awarded the Radcliffe Trust Craft Scholarship and the Arts Society Young Arts Bursary. His work examines the tension between the natural and the artificial, revealed through the interplay of flat surfaces and representations of three-dimensional spaces.
Max Boyla
Max Boyla, also based in London, explores the fluid boundaries between reality and imagination. His works create ambiguous, surreal worlds where recurring characters offer familiarity in dreamlike, timeless settings. A recent graduate of the Royal Academy Schools, Boyla’s work has been exhibited at venues including Des Bain, Berntson Bhattacharjee, Sim Smith, Mammoth, APT Gallery, and the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Boyla’s recent work delves into the fictional landscapes of advertising, interrogating their unattainable promises. His satin pieces are defined by an ambiguous quality, oscillating between pure abstraction and natural landscapes. The fluidity of his work conjures a dialogue between sea, sky, and formlessness, blurring the lines between the tangible and the imagined.
Perception will be on view from 24 October to 24 November 2024 at Art Works Gallery, One Holland Village, 7 Holland Village Way, Singapore.
