It was my first time in Taipei, and I found myself being a wide-eyed tourist once again. Throughout the entire car ride to the venue, I revelled in the vibrant sights and sounds of the bustling city, accompanied by an underlying adrenaline rush that always comes with exploring someplace foreign. We were headed to the city’s most iconic landmark, Taipei 101, for Loro Piana’s spring/summer 2025 collection preview. And despite coming from a cosmopolitan city teeming with skyscrapers, the building’s postmodernist style and towering presence still left an indelible impression on my mind.

As we made our way to the fifth floor of the building, we were greeted by rows of linen flowers that decorated the perimeter of the showroom. With linen being the focal point of the Italian label’s latest collection, the flowers were more than just a conspicuous nod to the lightweight fabric. The exquisite decor also invited visitors to bask in the ambience that echoed the brand’s ethos of elegance, understated luxury, and commitment to tradition. Amidst racks of classic pieces that encapsulated the brand’s timeless essence, striking creations paid homage to the complexity of the effortlessly light fibre. One in particular (and undeniably my favourite) was an exquisite multi-tiered dress crafted from linen and Manila hemp, a species of banana plant.

Just like how Taipei 101 has long been a beacon of innovation, Loro Piana’s spring/summer 2025 collection exudes an experimental, forward-looking vision. For its fall/winter 2024 collection, the Maison celebrated its centenary by redefining its most timeless designs and finding renewed inspiration in the unique styles of its founders, Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana. Now, the brand seeks to forge a new path ahead: One that bridges novelty with heritage.

Reinterpreted through a distinctive, century-old savoir-faire, linen comes blended with the brand’s signature fibres such as cashmere, silk, and Sopra Visso wool to create pieces that provoke a compelling dialogue between touch, texture, and silhouette. For instance, the collection’s outerwear line has plenty of elongated coats and blazers, with each piece soft and supple to the touch yet sharply tailored.

In mirroring the world’s transition from the introspection of winter to the dynamism of the warmer seasons, the collection intertwines an audacious outdoor spirit with ladylike sophistication. The feminine silhouettes come imbued with an utilitarian edge: Think cropped jackets paired with knee-length skirts and knitted coats with matching trousers. The brand’s iconic Traveller field jacket is also reinvented in a warm pecan hue in plongé leather while the brand’s signature campo di lino flower motifs are transformed into abstract prints.
As spring progresses into summer, lightness becomes more apparent with airy silhouettes, pleated skirts and oversized blouses running the gamut. Other highlights of the collection are the vibrant nautical references and washed denim silk pieces that are equal parts sturdy and velvety. In a pleasant departure from its signature palette of neutrals, Loro Piana has also introduced vivid pops of yellow and red on several of its suede bombers and anoraks.

An interplay between the masculine and feminine animates the collection’s eveningwear. Styled with sophisticated pillbox and bucket hats, ensembles are rendered in monochromes—black and white—establishing a timeless feel rather than one that is influenced by the seasons. As for new accessories, Loro Piana has introduced functional bags like the women’s Ghiera Tote and the Extra Drawstring Backpack, as well as glamorous statement pieces like the Extra Evening Clutch. A collection of sophisticated foulards also pay homage to the brand’s textile tradition with its assortment of animal and botanical motifs.
Being a heritage brand often implies that reinvention comes under the strictest terms. Loro Piana has always been adept at preserving its essence while adapting to keep up with the times. In the unveiling of this fresh chapter of its legacy, the luxury house has not only put a fresh twist on treasured classics, it has also offered refreshingly experimental takes on fabric blends and tailoring.
