How does one define the Miss Dior fragrance? Some define it by its timeless sophistication: A chic pink scent that has transcended generations, adorning necks and wrists, and the tops of women's vanities since 1947. Others recognise it for its stunning visual campaign starring Natalie Portman, who has been the face of Miss Dior since 2011. Portman herself sums up this year's beautiful new rendition of the iconic fragrance in just three words: "Elegant, empowered, joyous."

For Dior perfume creation director Francis Kurkdjian, capturing the eternal youth of House of Dior meant creating a chypre but contemporary fragrance. Inspired by the characteristic notes of the original 1947 scent, Kurkdjian retained the fruity top notes of mandarin orange, apricot and peach, and brought out the mid-notes with wild strawberries and jasmine to give Miss Dior its classic candied aroma. What
lingers on your skin is an alluring woody base of patchouli and Alaskan cedar, and amber and moss.

When Portman first took a whiff of Kurkdjian’s spin on the fragrance, she knew it was special. “My first impression was how intense the scent was without being overwhelming. The fragrance has its own confidence,” Portman explains. “The infusion of jasmine is spectacular. Francis Kurkdjian was incredibly meticulous about the extraction process and was committed to harvesting only the best jasmine. This care is reflected in the final fragrance,” Portman continues, highlighting the core note of the scent.

Depending on the time of day, the smell of jasmine varies— more green at daybreak, musky at night, and slightly orangey and gourmand when freshly plucked. Picked in the month of July, at the beginning of the harvest and at the break of day, the flowers release their green and floral notes.

“Francis Kurkdjian has created something that continues to surprise you as the scent settles on your skin,” praises Portman, likening the perfume to “a woman seeking truth, love, and adventure”. She continues: “This perfume adds a sense of maturity to the ever-vivacious Miss Dior. This fragrance was always an ode to young women, but youth evolves, and this new scent captures the elegance of discovering our womanhood.”

The new Miss Dior Parfum is available in Dior Beauty stores and counters nationwide as well as on its website.
