Miu Miu announces Chui Mui Tan as the director of its latest Women's Tales film. A bi-annual creative project launched by Miu Miu in 2011, the Italian label commissions two female directors each year to create a film for Women's Tales—with each shown during the spring/summer and fall/winter campaigns. Narrated through the lens of each director's unique perspective, each film weaves the distinctive beauty of Miu Miu's garments with themes of femininity and womanhood.
For the 27th chapter of this film series, Miu Miu taps into the artistry of Malaysian director Chui Mui Tan. More About the Film
Beyond this short film's intriguing name lies an even more riveting story. Titled I am the beauty of your beauty, I am the fear of your fear, the film revolves around Gita, a young woman who leaves her hometown in China for Malaysia in search of a life purpose. As she struggles to come to terms with her past and identity, Gita devotes herself to an intense course of martial arts training; turning inwards and arriving to groundbreaking epiphanies about herself. Using the physical act of wrestling as a metaphor for confronting our inner battles, Tan expertly weaves themes of strength and cultural heritage through a feminine perspective.
"I am the beauty of your beauty, I am the fear of your fear" is set to premiere in Shanghai on 12 March 2024.
