Two Noses Are Better Than One: Quentin Bisch And Louise Turner On Creating Chloé’s Cedrus Intense Parfum

Chloé’s Atelier des Fleurs perfume collection is a love letter to nature that celebrates floral composition in its purest form. For its latest addition, Cedrus Intense, the house explores imperial woods for a sculptural scent of vetiver, sandalwood, and cedar. It’s a study in contrasts, created by two renowned perfumers: Quentin Bisch, known for his bold, theatrical approach, and Louise Turner, whose minimalist style draws from nature.

How do two perfumers work together on a fragrance?

Quentin Bisch (QB): In our world, collaboration is as important as competition. Perfumes follow a genealogy, and our job is to carry forward traditions while infusing our own perspectives.
Louise Turner (LT): We took Quentin’s original memory of Cedrus and expanded it, creating a beautiful sensorial memory that tied his past to the future of Chloé’s Atelier des Fleurs.

How did your distinct personalities and approaches influence the final fragrance?

QB: For us, the goal was to create a singular, sculptural beauty within this fragrance. My work on the original Cedrus fragrance laid the foundation, and together, we saw the next step as elevating it through true artistic collaboration. Inspired by Gabrielle Aghion, the visionary founder of Chloé, who championed co‑creation, I turned to Louise’s unique perspective on the natural world. By blending our sensorial visions, Cedrus Intense came to life—a fragrance as uniquely intense as its name.

What was the vision for Cedrus Intense?

LT: We wanted to ensure it’d provide a light, hopeful view of the future, all while adding intensity and power to the line. As people continue to navigate a fast‑moving, difficult world, Chloé’s Atelier des Fleurs provides a beautiful, escapist break from this difficulty.

How does Cedrus Intense reflect Atelier des Fleurs’ floral heritage despite its woody focus?

QB: Atelier des Fleurs speaks to nature lovers. By centering on woods, we highlight the richness of plants and their deep connection to our lives.

LT: Flora means “flower” in Latin, but is also the name of the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, who ruled over all plants for their intrinsic beauty. Exploring this theme through woods adds rich texture and depth.

What are your hopes for Cedrus Intense, and what’s the best way of wearing it?

QB: The collection is a masterclass in haute parfumerie, offering a unique perspective on nature. Hopefully, Cedrus Intense would be accepted with the joy that we both felt creating it together, a sense of awe for its contrasting elements creating such beauty, an appreciation of its originality, and a respect for the natural world. It can be worn alone or layered with jasmine, magnolia or Mediterranean florals from the collection.
