At this year’s Met Gala, themed around the cultural lineage of Black dandyism, Gustav Magnar Witzøe stepped onto the red carpet not just in a look but in a legacy. The Norwegian entrepreneur and heir arrived in a custom ensemble by Todd Patrick, styled by Amar Faiz, that fused sculptural minimalism with historical reverence.

Tailored from rich white cashmere wool, the outfit was a study in purity and restraint, elevated by oversized shoulders, a double lapel, and a mirrored jacket hemline. The clean lines weren’t just aesthetic, as they were intentional. Designed to project calm strength and quiet confidence, the silhouette channelled the spirit of jazz legends Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington.

"When you think of jazz, there is this rhythm and calmness all in one. If you've met Gus, you know why he's more jazz and calmness than anyone," said Desyree Nicole, Creative Director of Todd Patrick.

But it was the accessory in Gustav Magnar Witzøe's hand that told the clearest story. A transparent briefcase with gold detailing, filled with soft rose petals, served as a poetic tribute to the late fashion editor-at-large André Leon Talley. Romantic and deliberate, it honoured not only Talley but the generations of Black style legends whose influence still shapes the cultural conversation today.

In a year where modern dandyism has been reclaimed by rap artists and cultural figures as a form of expressive identity, Gustav’s interpretation aligned seamlessly with that arc where tailoring becomes a language, and fashion becomes the message.
