As they celebrate their fifth anniversary, ITZY are setting their sights firmly on the future. Their gratitude for the support of their MIDZYs (the name of the ITZY fandom) is evident, but these girls are hungry for more. Over the past five years, they’ve grown not just as a group, but they’ve navigated the whirlwind of fame with remarkable poise and resilience. We asked them about their journey so far, favourite concert moments, and how they spend their time off-stage.
What are some of the biggest challenges and rewards of being on a world tour?
Ryujin: I always look forward to checking out the vibe in every city and the atmosphere of each venue.
Who were your musical influences growing up?
Ryujin: I have to give love to AKMU. I always hummed along to their songs when I was young, and that’s when I dreamed of becoming a singer.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Ryujin: I would tell her to enjoy life more. There are times when I wished I was more present in the moment to enjoy things.
What are some of your favourite things to do when you’re not working?
Ryujin: I like looking for new content on platforms, and watch new series when they come out. Currently, I’m watching the movie Shoplifters.
It’s been an interesting five years for ITZY. What are some of your thoughts looking back on your career?
Ryujin: I want to challenge myself in new fields and perform on bigger stages.
What message would you like to send to MIDZYs?
Ryujin: I want to say thank you for always waiting for us and being there even though we can’t see each other often. Because of MIDZY, we got a lot of energy, and we will return all your love with our music and good performances.
