Mikey Madison is making her Oscar debut this evening as a Best Actress nominee, and the Anora star brought out her most ladylike look yet. At tonight’s ceremony, Madison graced the red carpet in a pink and black Dior gown, featuring a bow at the bodice. She accessorised with a Tiffany & Co. necklace.
In addition to her individual nod, Anora is nominated for Best Picture, Best Director (Sean Baker), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Yura Borisov), Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing this evening.
When Oscar nominations were announced, Madison told Variety that she was “humbled [and] absolutely overjoyed” to be a first-time nominee. She touched on the Los Angeles wildfires as well, saying, “My heart is broken for Los Angeles right now, but I feel like as a community, everyone’s coming together and celebrating film in a beautiful way.”
Madison spoke to ELLE for our Women in Hollywood issue about why she became an actress. “I just had a yearning for a different kind of connection that I wasn’t feeling, that I wasn’t getting—something I was searching for inside myself manifested in me wanting to be an actor,” she shared. “I can’t pinpoint a specific moment when I was like, ‘I want to be an actor, and this is why.’ Something was pulling me toward it. I was, in my teens, very awkward and uncomfortable with myself. I was looking for something to be a bit emotional, and I think I found it.”
Anora represents a breakthrough moment in her career. For years, she had been “falling in love with characters and fighting to get in the door and having it not happen,” she said. But now, “some of those doors are opening back up.”
