The celebration of female empowerment and strength is in full swing as Dior joins in with their ready-to-wear Autumn Winter 19/20 collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. This collection was inspired by the Teddy Girls of 1950s English subculture. The Teddy Girls, known for their androgynous style of turn-up jeans, blazers and knotted neck scarves embodied the rebellious elegance of creative audacity.
The video, captured by Italian photographer Brigitte Niedermair, features models Selena Forrest and Ruth Bell and is packed with feminist motifs. As a veritable ode to sorority, the series of shots outlines the contours of an affirmed femininity through the silk screen T-shirts ‘Sisterhood Is Global’ and ‘Sisterhood Is Powerful’. These slogans pay homage to the American feminist poet Robin Morgan.
The Dior Book Tote and Diorcamp gets a fresh, new gingham design while the iconic Lady Dior is revisited in matte leather. The new home must-have, the 30 Montaigne bag, is presented in an unpublished version in crushed lamb leather, exuding a vintage effect.
Accessories are varied in prints and patterns as the tartan meets the toile de Jouy and the leopard, fetish codes of the couturier-founder. Precious couture accessories are paired with shoes with short heels, pearls and sunglasses paired with crystals and reversible veiled bobs created by Stephen Jones, the House’s hatter.
The Dior ready-to-wear Autumn-Winter 19/20 collection is now available in stores.
