If anyone understands the art of ageing gracefully, it’s Song Hye-Kyo. The actress has been setting the standard for flawless, lit-from-within skin for decades now, making her the perfect face for Guerlain’s latest breakthrough. Enter the Abeille Royale Youth Watery Oil Serum, a next-generation formulation that targets “zombie” cells, reactivates the skin’s self-repair mechanisms, and brings back its bounce, glow, and all the good things that gravity rudely tries to take away.

Unveiled in Seoul at Guerlain’s regional press event, the serum had the kind of launch event usually reserved for blockbuster films and billion-dollar tech drops. Key press and influencers from eight Asia-Pacific markets, and Song Hye-Kyo herself gathered to witness 15 years of research, nine patents, and a whole lot of solid science in a single Guerlain bottle.

Built on three rare and nourishing honeys from the black bee — a species known for producing honey so potent it might as well come with a PhD — the Guerlain Abeille Royale Youth Watery Oil Serum also melts into the epidermis with its micro-bead-infused, 99 per cent naturally derived formula. This gives it the ability to reactivate senescent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) or, as scientists like to call them, “zombie cells.”

These cells, which should have retired gracefully, instead linger uselessly in the skin, draining collagen and sabotaging repair functions. The Abeille Royale Youth Watery Oil Serum tells them, politely but firmly, that time’s up.

Of course, Guerlain wasn’t just going to drop this kind of scientific marvel without giving guests an experiential deep dive. Johnny Ribeiro, Guerlain’s Chief Brand Officer, and Dr. Lorène Gourguillon, PhD, Head of Advanced Biobased & Bioinspired Ingredients Unit at LVMH Research, led the way, introducing the serum with the kind of precision and expertise that made the whole event feel more like a TED Talk.

Guests took part in a skincare workshop, trying the entire Abeille Royale collection under the guidance of Guerlain’s expert facialist. Then, at the Formula Laboratory Workshop, they created their own serums—a rare opportunity to mix ingredients that usually stay behind glass counters in Parisian laboratories.

The final touch? A virtual reality journey into Guerlain’s Honey Reserve, where over 150 rare honey samples from around the world are housed.

And through it all, Song Hye-Kyo stood as solid proof that the Guerlain Abeille Royale Youth Watery Oil Serum works. Poised, radiant, and glowing in a way that no ring light could ever recreate, she embodied the kind of effortless, luminous beauty that only scientific innovation and bees with PhDs can deliver.
