Korean actress Kim Go Eun steps into the playful world of Nespresso’s latest campaign, joining global ambassadors and fellow actors George Clooney, Eva Longoria, and Camille Cottin in The Great Coffee Heist. The comedic caper unfolds aboard a luxurious train, where coffee capsules—treated like fine jewels—mysteriously disappear. As a mischievous sous chef, Kim is caught up in the whodunit, facing off against Detective George in a bid to keep her “stolen” treasures hidden.

For Kim, the experience was nothing short of special. “I feel immense pride in being part of this global campaign. Working with such a wonderful cast was an absolute joy, and we had a lot of fun bringing the script to life.” She recalls moments of improvisation and laughter on set, breaking into different languages and feeding off the cast’s energy. “Despite the language barrier, it didn’t really matter—we had so much fun.”

Coming from a city with a vibrant coffee culture, Kim relishes the overall atmosphere that coffee creates. “There’s a sense of relaxation that comes with drinking coffee—the soothing aromas, the comforting warmth. I think it also creates a moment of inner peace. This combination of sensations makes a cup of coffee truly unforgettable,” she shares.

“Korea has some incredible coffee shops, as it’s such a huge part of our culture. The way we enjoy coffee is incredibly social and about being together, so we spend a lot of time in the coffee shops rather than just getting coffee to-go.”

In this exclusive interview with ELLE Singapore, Kim talks about her experience on set, favourite Nespresso blend, and what she’s manifesting for 2025.

Your role as a sous chef trying to outsmart Detective George Clooney looks so fun! How did you bring your own personality into this mischievous character?

I found that the relaxed atmosphere on set really helped. One particularly memorable moment was when someone suggested we deliver our lines in our native languages. The spontaneous switch had everyone in stitches, and that playful energy, along with the natural improvisation, added an extra charm to my character. I think moments like these even seeped into scenes like the one where Detective George is tricked, making the performance feel even more dynamic.

The set looked like such a lively place. Can you share a funny or unexpected moment from filming with George, Eva, or Camille?

I absolutely loved being on set, and this project was a whole new experience—not just because of the incredible cast but also because of the amazing international crew. Despite coming from different backgrounds, we spent so much time laughing that any language differences disappeared.

One moment that stood out for me was when, even before formally greeting Eva, we had to film the final scene of The Great Coffee Heist, where we all had to shout in unison (referencing the 0:25 mark of the video). Since we were still getting to know each other and had to synchronise our movements to nail the comedic timing, there was an initial awkwardness—but that only made it more fun. Eva’s naturally cheerful personality helped break the ice, and I vividly remember our playful exchanges and how hard we tried to stay in character while holding back laughter.

Imagine assembling your ultimate coffee heist team—who would you pick and why?

Naturally, if I had to choose a partner for a role, I would pick George first. As a detective, he not only possesses sharp observational skills and excellent deductive reasoning but also has a unique charm that allows him to resolve any situation with a smooth and humorous touch. His charisma and wit can disarm any adversary, and I am confident that with George on board, any operation is destined to succeed.

How do you usually have your coffee?

Before heading to the set, I always brew a cup of coffee with my Nespresso machine and carry it in my tumbler. Starting a day packed with a tight schedule with the soothing aroma of coffee gives me the energy to face the challenges ahead. A day that begins with the perfect cup of coffee imbues me with a renewed vitality—much like my commitment to delivering sincere and uplifting performances to the audience.

Nespresso’s blends are so unique. Do you have a favourite?

I have a particular fondness for iced coffee, which is why the Double Espresso Dolce feels like the perfect match for me. Its versatility—working beautifully in everything from an iced latte to other blends—resonates with my own desire as an actor to showcase a wide range of expressions.

What Nespresso machine are you using now?

The Vertuo Creatista—it perfectly captures the rich flavour and smooth crema of Nespresso coffees, and I love its milk steaming function, which allows me to create latte art effortlessly at home. In my view, the Vertuo Creatista is the ideal machine, not just for its performance but also for its sleek design, which enhances any kitchen.

We’re kicking off a new year—what’s one word that captures the vibe you’re manifesting for 2025

For me, it’s “Unforgettable”—just like Nespresso’s commitment to creating memorable experiences. I aspire to craft moments that leave a lasting impression and resonate deeply. I’m excited for this journey with the brand and hope that everyone reading this interview will create their own unforgettable and special memories this year.

What shows are you working on, and when can we catch them?

Projects set for release this year include Netflix series Two Women and The Price of Confession. I appreciate your interest and support!
